According to a research, it has been shown that one out of five teens and adults in the United States are known to be infected with herpes. There are two types of viruses that cause this infectious disease, one of which is the herpes simplex 1.

Herpes simplex 1 or HSV-1 has been known to differ from HSV-2 in the sense that both of them can occur separately and also jointly. This kind of herpes virus is known to infect areas within the face of an individual. One of the more common areas of infection would be the mouth. Oral herpes indicates that there are lesions inside the cavity of the mouth, these lesions are more commonly referred to as fever blisters.

Also, aside from the mouth, the face can also be a common spot for the virus to grow. The infection begins when you notice a portion of your face or a certain patch of your skin wherein you feel tingly. After a few moments, you notice that this area seems to be itchy. After a while, groups of small red bumps appear and form blisters and lesions.

These blisters develop into yellow crusts which eventually dry up. Patches of your skin might fall off and then new skin develops. It is quite rare for scars to develop. As a matter of fact, after a few days or weeks from your outbreak, your skin might look normal at all.

However, this does not necessarily mean that you are herpes free. The virus has just rested for a while and would then return to produce another outbreak soon.

There has been no known cure for the herpes simplex 1 virus. Although, there are a few medications that will help a lot in treating the symptoms and somehow lessen the occurrence of the outbreaks.

Great piece, but don't forget that not everyone who carries the herpes virus actually shows symptoms. And even if symptoms aren't present you can still transmit the virus sometimes. The only way to know for sure is to get tested -
